This is for the 1.02 update, and fixes the game so it does not require any initial logins or verifications. Also if you have issues with low performance, as in the vidios don't work properly, or the menu screen crawls, or the fps in-game drops alot, then you might want to try using this.

The other day I came across a game that has been gathering dust for years, literally, and I decided I wanted to play it. Its a Dos game and Dosbox annoys me, so I set about finding a way to play it without it. After alot of messing around I got it to install and play. So heres how to do that. Note: I have only done this on XP, so if you're using any other system this might not work.

1. Download and install VDM Sound

2. Insert the cd, hold down the shift key to stop it from autorunning the setup program.

3. Manually open the cd (right-click cd drive and click open or explore).

4. Right-click the install.exe and click run with VDMS.

5. Keep the install location as-is (C:/GW), and press enter. After this it will ask for your sound card. Select the Sound Blaster 16, or Sound Blaster AWE 32 and then select detect hardware. It should find something. Test the sound, and if all is working select Sound is ok and press anter.

The game is now installed.

To play:

1. Go the the install folder (C:\GW), right-click the gw.exe and set the compatibility to Windows 95.

2. Open Command Prompt, and click to maximize the window (even if it doesn't change size, it is important oddly enough)

3. Type in the following lines (pressing enter after each, the last one starts the game)

Infernal Missing PhysX Error Fix

If you've installed a game recently that uses the newer PhysX, like I just did, you might notice that Infernal suddenly thinks that PhysX isn't installed. This is because nVidia in their infinite wisdom didn't include the 2.5.2 files in the new version, which Infernal needs.

This is easy to fix, and works for any version of the game.

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy Vista Win 7 Work-Around

This game seems to have problems on any system newer than XP. It installs if you're lucky, but never starts and refuses to patch no matter how much you try.

So far I have only found one way around it and that is to install the game on XP, patch it, crack it, and copy the folder to a flash drive to play, or copy it to a machine running Vista/Win 7.

If you want to go through that process, here's what to do.

1. Install the game from the cd on a XP machine.

It has been patched and cracked already. There is a reg file in there, just in case the game doesn't run, but its only rarely that it is needed. Just extract to wherever you want and play.

It is the EU version. Don't know if thats important, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Spore Bad_Data Fix

So, you've been playing Spore, and got to the space stage, only to find that all your planets and system are called BAD_DATA. Great!

This only seems to happen on the English version of the game, and only from 1.04 onwards. It is a problem where the game hasn't created the namegeneration package, so can't generate names properly.

Note: If you have saved the game in the space stage this will not help, as the game has already attempted to generate names for planets and failed. So you might have to start a new game.

1. Install the game from the dvd, and any add-ons and expansion packs if you have them.

2. Download and install the 1.05.1 patch:

Sims 3 Late Night Crash Fix

So you've just installed the new EP, whats the first thing you're gonna do? Probably the same thing I did: check out the new neighborhood map thingy, which you can do no problem, but just try and play it and the game crashes to the desktop.

all is not lost, heres a workaround for a problem that shouldn't exist if EA actually play-tested their games.

1. in the new neighborhood (I forget the name) go into edit town mode.

2. you may notice a grey empty lot somewhere, the one in my game was down next the Plumbob Pictures Backlot. Bulldoze the lot.

you should now be able to play without a problem, however if you can't try moving/bulldozing any Ambitions lots.

Installing Tomb Raider 1

There is a simple way of installing Tomb Raider and Unfinished Buisness. With this way you can either go the free route or the $10 route, the $10 route obviously having benefits like audio and texture enhancements you download, which to be honest isn't bad for $10.

2. Install VDMSound (choosing the complete setup) and restart your system.

3. Download Tomb Raider Advanced Installer:

4. Put the Tomb Raider cd in your cd drive. Exit out of any autorun stuff it throws up.

5. Run the advanced installer. Pick Tomb Raider from the two options in Step 1 then click Next. You will have to go through this twice if you plan on installing Unfinished Business (picking Tomb Raider Gold instead).

6. In Step 2 choose what you will be running the game with. Glidos costs $10 to unlock fully, dgVoodoo is free but has less oportunity for enhancements, and finally the original exe. I suggest choosing one of the first two. Click Next when you've made a choice.

7. If you chose dgVoodoo in Step 2 you'll get a Step 2a. Select either 1.31 or 1.40, I chose 1.40. This works fine for me, however if it gives you problems you can run the installation again and choose 1.31. Then click Next.

8. Step 3 sets up VDMSound. Select the option to let the installer configure your soundcard. Then select the IRQ7 option, this works for most computers, but if you have no sound when running the game later run the installer again and select the IRQ5 option. Clicking Next will start the installation.

9. Step 5 is the last step. If you chose Glidos originally select the option to create a PIF file, then click Finish. If you chose dgVoodoo select the option to create a shortcut, and if you have an ATI graphics card select to disable dgVoodoo vdd mode, then click Finish.
Note: To play the game in disabled vdd mode, double click the icon for it that the program created (this brings up a pop-up box), then double click the icon for the game. Don't close that pop-up box until you have finished playing Tomb Raider.

Mass Effect Noveria Lift Workaround

Imagine, you're playing Mass Effect, you get in a lift and press the button. Nothing happens, you can't move, and the lift won't move either. This has happened to me too many times, for some odd reason only on Noveria. This helps.

1. Go to My Docs\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config and open BIOInput.ini in notepad (you might want to make a copy first as a backup).

2. find the line [Engine.Console] add the line ConsoleKey=Tilde under it. Save and close the ini.

Now everytime you get stuck in the lifts press the tilde key to bring up the console and do the following:

1. in the console type in ghost and press enter. Exit the console (escape). You still won't be able to move, but thats not important.

2. Bring up the console again, type in walk and press enter. Close the console (escape).

After doing this turn towards the lift button and press it again. The lift should work as intended.

As an alternative you might want to get into the habit of quicksaving before every lift.

Starcraft 2 Association Required Error Fix

After installing SC2 and registering it on battle.net sometimes when starting the actual game this error appears: Association Required. This Battle.net account does not include an associated copy of StarCraft II. Please log into Battle.net account management and add the game to your account. No idea why this happens.

Funny thing is that this is the simplist thing to fix.

1. log into battle.net

2. goto Account >> Settings >> Communication Preferences

3. switch the language to match the play region

If the region and language already match up try changing your password a few times, sounds crazy but it seems to work.

Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands Offline Fix UPDATED

Settlers 7 Offline Fix

Ubi's servers servers are still full of fail, so heres how to get around that problem. This only works on the 1.02 version, and so far there hasn't been one that works with newer versions.

This seems to be a Vista/Windows 7 only problem, but I could be wrong on that. It is caused by microsoft updating the Microsoft Synthesizer. Easily fixed though.

If the game crashes constantly, like it did for me, there is a quick way to get around it. I can't say for sure that this will work for everyone, but it worked for me. It did work on both the Sold Out and retail versions.

Stability problems galore with this one, it either crashes somewhere in the game or won't even start. Thankfully this is easily fixed.

Sometimes the game is funny about installing, so there are two options for you to try. Keep in mind that I don't know if the game itself will work even if you get it to install, it wasn't made for 64-bit systems, so I can't say for sure.

1. put the cd in the drive and close the autorun

2. goto My Computer, right-click the cd drive and click Open

3. select the Setup.exe and SetupInstall.exe. Right-click and select Properties.

4. click the Compatability tab and select Windows 95 compatability.

Double clicking the setup.exe should now start the install.

Alternatively you can download my copy, which I rush installed the other day (it doesn't need the cd to run and it has both patches installed). You may want to change the screen resolution as it is set for mine (1440x900). To change this double-click the FinalSetup.exe, it allows you to change the settings. Don't change the textures from 16-bit though, as the others aren't installed and the game will not work.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption Vienna Crash & Save Fix

Two problems with the same fix, so I've bulked them together. If you find that you can't overwrite saves, or if the game crashes when you try to go to Vienna, then try this. It fixed my problem.

1. First download and install the patch:

2. Find the install folder (usually C:\Program Files\Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption).

3. Right-click the folder and click Properties. In the properties box click Advanced (in the attributes section). Make sure "For fast searching, allow indexing service to index this folder" is ticked. Then click ok. If you are asked make sure it is applied to all sub-folders.

4. Make sure that the Indexing Service is set to automatic. To check this click start then run. In the run box type in services.msc and press enter. Scroll down the list to find the Indexing Services.

Doing this should stop any problems.

Sims 3 store items/cc not installing fix

Store items and cc not installing is a problem that I have had since way back in patch 1.8, but I have finally found a way to completely fix this issue, thanks to a nifty little program I found. So I'm sharing the solution.

Please note that this method changes the content in such a way that it is classed as a completely different item. Because of this any saves using the store items/cc (that were previously installed but no longer work) may not work properly after doing this. To get around this run the game, load the save and change all the items for default ones. This lessens your chances of it breaking your saves. Also back-up the save folder, just in case.

1. Download the TG Unblocker:

2. In the zip is a folder called TG_Unblock, put this on the desktop.

3. Copy all of your downloaded .Sims3Pack files into that folder. If the items are from the store you will find them in the Sims 3 save folder in a folder called Downloads.

4. Run the Unblock.exe. Wait until it is finished and press any key to exit the program.

5. Copy all the .Sims3Pack files into the Downloads folder in the Sims 3 saves folder (Usually My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads).

They should all now install successfully via the game launcher.

Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD Needed Fix

After the patch UT2k4 should not need the DVD anymore, but I've found that this isn't always the case. I have no idea why, but this has worked for me every time.

1. Install the game.

2. Run the game and change something in the settings. It can be anything. Then exit the game.

5. Open the file Mohawk.w32 in notepad. Change the line fEnableAudioProxy=true to fEnableAudioProxy=false. Save the file and close it.

The game should now run.

RealMyst End of Game Crash Fix

At the end of RealMyst (giving the page over) it crashes with a bink32w.dll error. This isn't a problem with the game or the dll, but a corrupted video. To fix it is simple.

1. Download Indeo Video codecs:

Myst & Myst: Masterpiece Edition black screen fix

This is to fix the problem where you start the game and all you can see is a black screen and the hand pointer, but the wind sound can still be heard.

This is a problem with quicktime compatibility and there are two ways to get around it. Sometimes one works, sometimes the other, so I'm listing both. I prefer the second way because its easier, and it works more often than not.

First Way:

1. Install the game from the CD. Only the game. It will ask to install a version of quicktime and direct x, say no to both of these.

2. Go to the Control Panel (start menu >> control panel), and double click the Quicktime icon. This brings up the Quicktime properties.

3. Click on the Advanced tab and tick the box next to Safe Mode. Then click ok.

4. Right click on the game shortcut on the start menu and click Properties.

5. In the Compatability tab tick the boxes next to Run in 256 colors, Run in 640 x 480 resolution and Disable visual themes. Then click ok.

The game should run without a problem now, however if it doesn't, or it crashes often try the second way.

Second Way:

1. Uninstall the version of Quicktime you have.

2. Install the game from the CD. Also install the Quicktime version when asked, but not the direct x.

The game should now work without problems.

Assassin's Creed 2 DLC enabled

Not a fix, but I thought someone might be interested in it. This is how to get the DLC temples and Altair outfit. *Please note: you must be using an offline fix to use this.*

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\storage
There will be another folder in there so open that. Now there may or may not be another folder, if there is open that, if not, don't worry.

2. Download this:

3. In the zip is save game data.
If you have played the game before you may already have saves in the folder you are in. Even if you haven't saved in all the slots in-game, the game does not always save in order, so check the size of the saves. The largest will have save data in them. If the one that has save data in is the same as the save number in the zip, just rename the one in the zip to the next number. Then copy the saves into the folder.
If you haven't played the game just copy the save into the folder.

Start your game again, load any save, or start a new game and you will now have the content.

If, like me, you're sick of being kicked out of your single player game because Ubisoft's servers are full of fail, there is a solution.

1. Install the game.

2. Let the game and the launcher update by running the game. It may then send you to the login/register screen. Close it.

3. Download this file:

Just run the game after, you won't need to be online or anything else.

3. Go to the install folder (usually C:/Program Files/Unreal Tournament/) and open the Textures folder. Copy City.utx, ShaneSky.utx and SkyBox.utx and paste them on your desktop.

4. Install the higher resolution S3TC textures. (CD 2)

5. After the install has finished go back to the Textures folder and copy Female1Skins.utx, Female2Skins.utx, Male1Skins.utx, Male2Skins.utx, Male3Skins.utx and SkTrooperSkins.utx, and paste them on to the desktop.

6. Download the S3TC Fix:

Put the exe in your Textures folder and run it. When its finished you can delete it.

7. Put all the textures copied to the desktop back into the Textures folder. Click yes to replace/overwrite all the files.

8. Now choose your renderer. They are pretty much the same, but some find that one works better than the other.

9. Start the game. On First-Time Configuration screen be sure to select show all devices. Select OpenGL or Direct3D9 (depending on which renderer you chose). This can always be changed later in-game from the options menu (options >> preferences >> video).

*You can either do the next part manually by editing the UnrealTournament.ini (in the system folder) or in-game.*

In-Game

1. Press the ~ key to bring up the console and type in preferences and press enter.

2. The Advanced Options panel opens. Set the game as seen in the following screenshots:

They all install...but can't run afterwards....reason being the version of Starforce (the cd validation/protection software) on the CD doesn't work with Vista...

Black and White 2 Vista Tiger Problem

The Tiger installer (which comes with the bonus edition or pre-ordered copy) does not work under Vista....There is only one way around this and that is to "borrow" a save game from someone...just so happens I have one.

Before you use the save make sure you patch your game because it was made with both patches installed and using it without them could crash the game.

Black and White 2 Nvidia Performance Fix

A while ago I owned an Nvidia card and had trouble with this game...but I found running the game on its medium (mid) or low settings would stop the lagging and sound problems.

If the mid settings don't help performance - Click the Custom check-box and use the settings below

Also using the "-minspec" handle on the shortcut to the game also helps....to do this:

1. Right-click the game shortcut (either on the desktop or start menu) and click properties.

2. In the Target box click after what is written....so after the end "....press space to leave a gap and then type in -minspec....then click ok.

Clive Barker's Undying Texture Update

Prototype Sounds Fix

All I can say is that this is a particularly annoying problem that will never officially be fixed....ever....bad port??...perhaps...but anyway its either crackling sound or too low sound....or both which was my problem...and drove me nuts for a good few hours...

This kind of works....kind of as in it can depend on your system...however it doesn't matter which version you have...can be retail dvd or steam...doesn't matter...

1. Download and unzip this:

2. Run the program and go look for 00audio.rcf (in the prototype install folder)...click Extract and then All Files....choose to extract everything to your desktop.

3. Do the same for 01audio.rcf 01woi.rcf 02woi.rcf 03woi.rcf and 00woi.rcf...this will take some time.

4. You should now have 2 folders on your desktop...Audio and Movies...Open the audio folder and cut everything in there.

5. Now open the Prototype install folder and paste everything into the Audio folder....if it asks you to overwrite click "yes".

6. Cut the movies folder on your desktop and paste it into your Prototype install folder.

7. Rename all the files you extracted (00audio.rcf 01audio.rcf 01woi.rcf 02woi.rcf 03woi.rcf and 00woi.rcf) so they are called something different...even if its just adding a letter somewhere.

8. Go into the audio folder and delete the ambience.p3d.

Try your game...if the problem is solved then stop now...if it isn't continue.

9. Download this replacement dll...it normalises the sound levels in the game...but for me also removed the crackling permenently:

Sims 3 World Adventures Random Crash Fix

The reason why this game crashes so often is because it doesn't have a frame rate limit...basically what that means to you is its trying to fry your graphics card...literally...and therefore crashes the game or your system...or causes a black/blue screen error...don't we just love those??

A way to get around it is to use a frame rate limiter.

After installing patch 1.8 (World Adventures 2.3) you may have noticed...like me...that your custom content is missing...even Riverview....

Heres how I fixed it...

Before doing anything back up your save files (my documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are just trying to fix Riverview ONLY do steps 2 and 7...
If you are only trying to fix the custom content do it all...otherwise you will break Riverview....Riverview cannot work any other way...I know....I've tried...

1. First download and install the installer helper (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=344611)...restart your system when it asks you to.

If you own World Adventures you need to copy the resources.cfg and Mods folder from C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures

2. Open the launcher and go through the installed content list deleting Riverview and all its objects...these are:

4. Go back into the main install folder (C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 or C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures for the EP)...in there will be something called Resource.cfg...open it using notepad....below the last line copy and paste the text below:

7. Either re-download Riverview using the launcher...or download here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PUNWM9K7 or http://www.4shared.com/file/GIqbyO6b/Riverview.html) if you don't want to sign in to the sims 3 site....when the download is complete install it as usual.

Note: The DCCache, DCBackup, InstalledWorlds and SigsCache folders will be re-created now...leave them there...otherwise it won't work.

It might be an idea to restart windows after all that....you know....just to make sure.....but after custom content and Riverview should turn up just fine.

Thief 2: The Metal Age Movie/Crash Fix

Thief: The Dark Project Movies/Crash Fix

This game *should* run without a problem....well apart from the in-game movies....these either don't run or crash the game...

With this the in-game movies play....and it stops some (if not all - I haven't experienced any) of the crash issues....

Notice how I removed the CD_Path line...this makes the game not need the CD at all (no I never thought it would be that simple either)....Also notice the added C:\Thief\intrface...this is to reference the file that was copied in step 6.

Remember to save the file.

9. Download this fixed exe:

(this fixes some crash issues and no-start issues).

10. Replace the Thief.exe with the fixed exe.

Now the movies should run...and the game no longer needs the CD.

Soul Reaver 2 Menu Screen Flashing Fix

This seems to be a problem with the shaders...and only happens with some video cards....some being ATI cards in my experience....

To fix it is quite simple...

1. Install the game from the CD.

2. Download the official 1.02 patch:

3. Install the patch.

4. Click the start menu...and click Run...

5. In the run box type "regedit" without the quotations...and press enter.

6. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER >> Software >> Crystal Dynamics >> Soul Reaver 2 >> 1.00000

7. Double click the line called disablevshader and change the value from 0 to 1.

8. Click OK to apply the change and close regedit.

Soul Reaver XP/Vista Fix

Soul Reaver has problems with modern technology it seems....to the point where most people had to resort to running it in software mode to even play it....this meant no in-game movies...among other things...

Now though there is no need for software mode because of this fix....and the videos work perfectly....

This works on XP and Vista....not sure about Windows 7....but no harm in trying....Also I think in Vista most of these things need to be ran as administrator...

1. Install the game as usual from the CD.

2. Download the Official 1.2 Patch:

3. Install the Official 1.2 patch.

4. Download the Unofficial Patch:

5. Open your install folder (usually C:/Program Files/Eidos Interactive/Soul Reaver)....now copy all the contents of the unofficial patch zip(s) into that folder...if you are asked to replace things click "yes"....

The game CD is no longer needed after following these steps.

Blood Omen XP/Vista Fix

This makes the game work on XP and Vista...probably Windows 7 too but I can't confirm that because I don't have it...Also I think in Vista most of these things need to be ran as administrator...

1. Before doing anything download cubanraul's Blood Omen Patch:

2. Put the CD in and exit out of the menu screen....you won't need it.

3. Run cubanraul's patch....this will install the game and patch it to a degree.

4. Download wrance's Blood Omen Patch:

5. Open your install folder (usually C:/Games/KAIN)...Replace the Kain.exe with the one in the zip.

This place doesn't really need an explaination....but I thought I'd write a bit anyways....because I can...

I decided to make this because there are so many games out there that are either badly made or just aren't supported anymore....sometimes its just a case of technology being too "advanced" for the game to cope with....whatever the reason people still want to play them....me included....so instead of keeping my work-arounds to myself I thought I would share my successes so that others might benefit...cos I'm nice like that I guess...

This however will be limited to my collection of games....obviously....but if anyone in internet land would like to contribute then post a comment on this post....

Use the search function to find if the game exists on here if you don't want to down the list trying to spot it...
